| The comedy so funny... you'll laugh yourself to death! |
Winner of the 2007 Blue Ribbon Award for Best Supporting Actress and Winner
of the 2007 Kinema Junpo Award for Best Supporting Actor, WAKEFUL NIGHTS is a classy comedy set in the world of Rakugo
(traditional Japanese Comic Storytelling) -- or at least it would be if it wasn't full of unbelievably raunchy jokes and stories!
When a dying patriarch's last wishes are entirely misunderstood, it sets in motion a torrent of hysterical reminiscences
as the remaining family members and apprentices celebrate the lives of the dead in a series of WAKEFUL NIGHTS.
In the tradition of “TAMPOPO” and “THE FUNERAL”, Wakeful Nights commemorates 100 years of Japanese filmmaking (started by Director Makino's grandfather!)
Note: this film is really, really funny. However, it contains stories and songs that are really, really, really dirty. AnimEigo suggests
you not consume hot beverages while watching this film, as there are multiple “spit takes”. Furthermore, please clear an area in front of
your chair to provide room for emergency convulsive laughter.
Also includes: deleted scenes, and dirty geisha karaoke!
Warning: Contains puns, jokes, dirty geisha songs, and one traumatized manta-ray.
